Outings and Entertainment
Local Outings & Entertainment
All book shops as well as libraries have good selections of local and
national guidebooks. A good reference for outings with children is Children's
London, Let's Go with the Children - Beds./Bucks./Herts., a paperback
book available at most book shops and libraries. Your county Yellow Pages
has a section recommending days out in your region as well. National Trust,
English Heritage, and Historic Houses Association are charitable organisations,
which own and maintain historic houses, gardens, and areas of natural
beauty and significance. To become a member (members have free admission
to properties) visit:
National Trust Regional Office - www.nationaltrust.org.uk
English Heritage - Membership - www.english-heritage.org.uk
Historic Houses Association - www.hha.org.uk
Guidebooks are available that give details of the properties, opening
times and admission charges. You may want to purchase Day Out and Travel
Guides from a larger newsagent or book store. Before you venture out too
far, be sure to verify that the place you will be visiting will be open.
Many attractions close from approximately November to March. Please check
local libraries and book shops for more and complete information.

Cinemas
Movie tickets can be booked ahead, and you can reserve your seats with
a credit or debit card at most of these cinemas. That way you can avoid
having to queue up for popular films.

Babysitters/Childminders
Start forming your own personal list of babysitters by asking those you
meet in your area to recommend a good sitter. ACS teens are also available
and advertise in the monthly newsletter. Names can be found at the local
doctors' surgery. The Uxbridge Civic Centre has a list of registered child
minders. You might also use a creche, which is the word used to describe
an organized babysitting service.
