from IB Coordinator and UK College Counsellor David Wynne-Jones and Academic Dean & US College Counsellor Gary Davis
The offices of the IB Coordinator and Academic Dean assist with
both academic and academically related issues – from before
a student joins us until long after they have transferred or graduated.
Families often contact us before they apply to discuss our academic
programs and college placement record. We also maintain contact
with former students: at informal gatherings, on college visits,
and return visits to campus, as well as through the Alumni Association,
at alumni meetings, and when they need records for university
transfers, job applications, visas, and other paperwork.
The main part of our job, of course, revolves around our current
students. Along the way, we monitor closely a student's academic
progress, processing his/her progress reports and quarterly report
cards. We also resolve the inevitable scheduling conflicts in
their educational timetables. At the same time we take students
through a number of activities and programs related to career
and college planning, including external examinations. We know
all of our students, and all of our students know us. They are
welcome to discuss their present and future aspirations with us
at any time.
ACS Hillingdon is fortunate to offer all its students the choice
between an excellent college preparatory program, the International
Baccalaureate (IB), and the Advanced Placement (AP) programs.
The attractions of this flexibility are obvious – around
45 per cent of our students opt for the full IB Diploma while
another 40 per cent choose strong mixed AP / IB programs. The
results gained by our students in the external examinations for
these programs are proof of the benefits: they are consistently
outstanding.
Students receive individualized college guidance and our college
placement record is impressive. Our graduates have gone on to
top universities and colleges in all the countries where they
have chosen to study. The list includes Duke and Brown, McGill
and Queen's, Oxford and Cambridge, Edinburgh and St Andrews, Tokyo
and Waseda, to name a few. We are mindful that university may
not necessarily be the right 'next step' for everyone; the list
also includes a variety of specialized institutions concentrating
on art, business, catering, drama, and music, which celebrate
the multitude of talents and interests among our students.
We hope that the information provided in this website will be
useful to you. Let us know if there is anything else that you
would like to see. We welcome personal contact, so drop by to
see us, or let us hear from you by email, phone, or fax.
