ACS Middle School offers a rigorous and high quality international education for students between the ages of 11 to 14 years old (6th Grade – 8th Grade). Our school is nestled in the Old Windsor forest with our Middle School based in a beautiful period mansion house at the heart of our campus.
Students joining us will find a friendly, lively and dynamic international community with our student body representing over 40 nationalities. We are proud to be authorised to run all three International Baccalaureate programmes and in Middle School we are part of the IBMYP (IB Middle Years Programme). IBMYP starts in Grade 6 and runs through to Grade 10 in High School, effectively smoothing the transition between the two sections of our school.
The IBMYP offers a broad-based foundation of knowledge and highlights the links between the separate subject areas. This is done so students learn to see the importance of all aspects of their education and consider learning as a whole experience. As with the IB Diploma and IBPYP programs, there is a focus on internationalism and IBMYP puts a large emphasis on preparing students with the values, understanding and attitudes to confidently take their place in building a better and increasingly intercultural world.
The ACS Egham Middle School prides itself on providing a very active, challenging learning environment, and one where the needs of adolescents are understood and appreciated. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves and others in a close community where they really get to know one another, and where their teachers, and Principal know them.
In the Middle School each student is assigned to an Advisory Group, and Advisor. Much of the advisory time is devoted to the idea of learning how to learn. Topics such as note-taking, goal-setting, time management, study strategies, and test-taking are addressed.
The Advisory Programme also focuses on health and social education issues, which are appropriate and relevant to these particular Grades. Students learn to accept responsibility for their actions, and through both positive and negative consequences begin to understand the link between their behaviour and its effect on themselves and others.
Parents work in partnership with the faculty in the education of their children, and this partnership is a key factor in the success of our programme. It is our goal that students enjoy school, that they know that they are valued and respected, and that they in turn value and respect those around them. Our Middle School students are encouraged to become involved in the active extracurricular life of the division. Involvement in Student Council is open to all, and provides wonderful opportunities for the development of leadership skills. The Council sponsors a range of activities from fundraising for charity to a variety of after-school socials, which include laser tag, bowling, movie nights, dances, and sports competitions against the faculty.
Students can participate year-round in after school sports, and the clear emphasis in our programme is the inclusion of all who volunteer. These sports include soccer, rugby, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, and athletics.
Participation in drama is encouraged with clubs and electives, offering opportunities for both improvised drama and a role in school productions. Choir is offered, and in addition to individual instrumental lessons, musicians can choose to perform with a number of school bands and groups. Many of the above activities place students in contact with their peers in other international schools through joint performances and competitions, both at our school and across Europe. We also offer an extensive Clubs Programme, which provides students with a variety of additional activities. It is our desire that students are given every opportunity to pursue interests and develop talents through this range of activities, and that they enjoy every aspect of Middle School life.
