The development of a child from the age of two-and-a-half to
six lays the foundation for all future learning. We believe it
is vital in early years for children to develop a positive attitude
toward learning that will enable them to become inquisitive, communicative,
and confident young learners.
Our teachers are facilitators who provide opportunities for hands-on
learning and exploration. They create learning environments that
encourage children to interact with an array of materials and
concepts.
As children develop understanding and skills, the difficulty,
challenge, and complexity of the activities are increased. In
teaching such basic mathematics concepts as the language of number,
order, pattern, sequence, addition and subtraction, hands-on methods
and materials are used to explore mathematical relationships,
learning to expect and identify patterns and solve problems.
Children are born with the need to communicate. This desire is
nurtured in a creative and productive manner. Purposeful play
unifies and animates developing communication skills. Stories
from children’s literature are used to inspire students
to tell, illustrate, and write their own stories. Children learn
to recognise the relationship between letters and sounds, and
become aware that writing transforms thoughts, ideas, and feelings
into print symbols that communicate meaning. A variety of creative
activities such as language games, circle time, and dramatic play
strengthen their verbal communication. Many children also begin
to show a strong interest in reading and sounding out words, and
are instructed accordingly.
Because we teach the whole child, we pay particular attention
to the social and emotional growth of our students. Our teachers
build safe and happy environments where students become comfortable
with their own individual play and learning styles, and begin
to work cooperatively with others. Children work in small groups
and learn to respect and listen to others. The goal of our developmental
approach to educating the young child is to create enthusiastic,
lifelong learners.
