Grade Six York Trip: Reflecting On The Experience

Reflecting On The Experience

On Tuesday, April 11th, 2007, I woke up remembering today was the trip to York! I put my clothes on and hurried down the stairs to eat my breakfast. After that, I got in my friend Victoria’s van and drove off to school to get the bus to York. When I got on the bus I sat on the front seats on the top deck. A couple of hours later, we reached our first destination- Howard Castle. I liked the castle tour- I noticed many European statues. At the end of the long day, we finally got to our hotel- Clarence Gardens.

The next day, we woke up and went to the York Minster in York. After that, everyone went to the park to eat their lunches. Next, we walked down to the Yorvik center. It actually smelled like it would have back in the age of the Vikings. It was very authentic and felt like you were back in that time! Our next stop was to a dig site where we got to dig for artefacts and experience what archeologists do nowadays. We went to the best Italian restaurant called ‘Bella Italia’ where I ordered a pizza margarita and ate it all. Delicious! In the evening, we went on a somewhat scary ghost tour. Almost everyone said that they were scared. We then returned to the hotel and told funny stories before going to sleep.

The next morning we woke up and prepared to tour Eden Camp. I really found the German blitz and seeing the affects the bombs had on England interesting. We also saw the old crumbled ruins of Whitby Abbey. Later that evening, we went bowling and Glen was a star bowler!

On the last day we went to the Magna center. My favourite exhibit was the wind pavilion. You could say that it was an ‘uplifting’ experience! On the way home, we enjoyed a few movies. Finally, I had a great trip but was glad to be back home and sleeping in my own bed.

 9. Eden Camp and learning about WW II was great!

 8. At the hotel there was a games center where I used too much money...

 7. Shopping was nice. We got to buy anything.

 6. At Whitby Abbey I sketched the view. Mrs. Maguire said that my drawing was very good.

 5. At the Magna Center we went to some places to learn about air, earth, fire and water.

 4. At 'Dig!' we dug for some things. I also bought some cool pencils at the shop.

 3. Jorvik was amazing. I loved the ride with all the historic viking scenes.

 2. Eating at Bella Italia was great.

 1. Bowling was very fun because I got in second place! We also had a good time in the games center downstairs.
