If you speak or study a little French, do you know the meaning of the word, “amis?” If not, it means “friend” in English. What a wonderful set of four letters to use as the acronym for an organization called AMIS! In this case it means “Association for Music in International Schools.” Our school belongs to AMIS and sends talented students to festivals from both the Middle and High School throughout the school year. It is a bit like our sports teams going to ISST’ and taking home the prize.
During four days in October, six boys from ACS Hillingdon Middle School travelled to Antwerp International School in Belgium. Upon arrival they became part of a fabulous choir with boys from thirteen other international schools. Together they made beautiful music as the AMIS International Middle School Honor Boys' Choir totalled 85 members. The choir memorized and then performed eleven songs in three different languages in Soprano, Alto, Baritone, three part harmony. A full house of very happy parents and students thoroughly enjoyed the gala Saturday night concert.
Even though Hillingdon was one of the smaller schools participating, our six singers were shining stars. One eighth grader even qualified for a beautiful alto solo in ensemble. Mr. Yeung and Mrs. Reilly are still smiling at the fine effort that the terrific Hillingdon boys put forth.
