The ACS Hillingdon Big Band and Choir recently toured to Germany and performed to very appreciative audiences. We travelled via coach, across the channel and arrived in Boppard, a picturesque town along the Rhine River.
Our first performance was at Hermy's Garden just outside of the township, followed by a performance at the town bandstand in the gardens of Boppard. Both performances took place on the bank of the Rhine. Our backdrop was amazing; castles dotted the skyline, overlooking vineyards and an industrious river highway.
The Big Band began with big band classics such as Freedom At Midnight, Maputo, Shaft and Danny Boy. This was followed by the Choir who performed the popular standard Route 66, followed by the stirring Canon of Praise and Famine Song. The Big Band ended with What I'd Say, the theme from Rocky and in a tribute to James Brown, I Feel Good.
Our audiences tapped their feet and clicked their fingers throughout; children danced and people out for a stroll stopped and listened. They were disappointed when we packed up and said they wished we could play longer.
It wasn't all work and that evening we went bowling together and the next day visited Phantasialand, a huge theme park. It was such an enjoyable timer together and I was so impressed with our students. In every sense, they were outstanding ambassadors for our school.
I also wish to thank Mr Hein, Mr Aurnhammer and Ms Cassell for accompanying this trip.
