On Friday 26th September, the High School Student Council organised a 'Pirate Day', in conjunction with "International Talk Like A Pirate Day" which is celebrated on 21st September - we moved our Pirate Day to the 26th as High School Photo Day was scheduled for 21st and we didn't think that we should all appear in the Yearbook in full pirate costume, although on second thoughts....
Earlier in the week, the student council sold pirate accessories including eye patches, bandanas and hats so our pirates were well-prepared for the Fancy Dress contest on the day. Overall, our ACS Pirate Day was a great success with many students participating in the Fancy Dress competitions to win prizes including bags of (chocolate) money and medals and with other students participating in the pirate game at lunchtime. The halls in Magnolia were heard to resound with cries of "Aye Aye Cap'n", "Aaaaargh" and "Shiver me timbers" all day long!
Altogether, the student council have already raised over £300 towards the costs of Prom. Look out for more Spirit Days in High School and further Fund Raisers throughout the year to raise money for charity as well as for the for Prom.
