Grade 12 - IB Theatre Trip - "Told by an Idiot"

Julia Cole

Students in Discussion

On Thursday, December 3, ten Yr11 and Yr12 IB Theatre students took a trip to London. The students attended a workshop at the Barbican lead by one of the artistic founders of the theatre company, ‘Told by an Idiot’. During the workshop the students explored various physical theatre concepts. After the workshop, the students took a tour of the National Theatre.

After the tour, the students returned to the Barbican and watched a performance of ‘The Fahrenheit Twins’, by the ‘Told by an Idiot’ Theatre company, featuring Paul Hunter, the man who had lead the workshop earlier in the day.

On Tuesday, December 1st, Drama students from the Royal Holloway University came to ACS Egham to run a forum theatre workshop on student social issues. The students introduced Augosto Boal’s theatre concept of ‘Forum Theatre’ to YR10 Drama students and YR12 English B IB theatre students. Forum Theatre is a style of Drama that involves engaging the audience in a discussion on social issues.

The Royal Holloway Students presented short scenes and monologues to the students and then the students were allowed to ask the actors, who stayed in character, about the situations that were portrayed.
