Cross Countrying all boundries

Patrick Lynch, 11th Grade Journalism Student

runners

Once again, this year’s cross country team celebrated another medal filled year capturing a total of 24 medallions at the ISST tournament held in Munich on 11 November. Coached by the experienced and demanding Mr. Reed and Buck, the team, which totalled around 40 runners, ran well all season.

This year the team was captained by old hands Chelsea Von Feldlt and Patrick and David Lynch, who encouraged their fellow runners throughout their long and in some cases injury plagued season. In terms of training, the cross country team ran “Monday miles,” which consisted of a long, hard run of up to nine miles, “Wednesday Intervals,” which consisted of short to long sprint “intervals” with a rest in between, a Friday track session, and a Saturday race, the culmination of the team’s hard work and dedication.

Girls JV

This year, the junior varsity girls team began the season seriously outnumbered with only two 7th Grade girls showing up for tryouts. Luckily, as the season progressed the girls were able to recuite a full squad of seven girls and improved steadily throughout the season. At the ISST competition in Munich the girls ran incredibly well and finished fifth in their division. Highlights of the day were Lara Cochran finishing 14 and running a life time best time of under 23 minutes. Also leading the ACS Cobham charge were Claire Hilgren who finished 14th place and Marina Kobayashi who placed 24th.

Boys JV

Not to be outdone, the junior varsity boys went to the ISST race in Munich undefeated and confident that they had the capabilities to bring home the gold. Gold was not meant to be, however,  as the boys finished in second place. Leading the way was Alex Stockinger  who finished in an impressive 5th place, David Robertson who placed 15th , and Marco Bartholdy who finished 16th.

Girls Varsity

Following suite, the Varsity girls had a very successful cross country season and went to Munich with aspirations of medalling. Leading the way, was junior Jackie Lynch running a season’s best time and finishing in 12th place. The girls ran their hardest, claiming a bronze medal for their efforts in their highly competitive division. Also running well, were Rebeeca Last, Racheal Alves, and Laura Hillgren.

Boys Varsity

Last but certainly not least, the Varsity Boys travelled to Munich as defending champions and eager to retain their title. Despite their best efforts, the boys weren’t able to win, but did run to their utmost claiming the silver medal. Once again, brothers David and Patrick Lynch placed in the top ten medal winning positions, with David finishing 5th and his better half finishing 7th. Also running well were, Charlie Dolan who finished 18th and Steven Robertson who finished 22nd. Overall, the teams ran tremendously well, once again showing how good ACS Cobham’s running really is.
