Sue Britton, our 6th Grade team leader, reports that her grade at ACS Cobham recently celebrated Culture Day as a culmination of a quarter-long culture unit that was incorporated into every subject of study.

On November 4th, parents from 10 different countries and regions spent the day at school sharing different aspects of their culture, food, history, art and poetry. Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Poland, Scandinavia, and the United States were represented and the presentations included games, fun quizzes, video presentations, and special stories from the countries.

During the quarter, the 6th Grade read The Other Side of Truth which begins in Nigeria; in Language Arts, they researched a country and wrote a creative cultural story; multi-cultural origins in early British history were looked at in Social Studies; contributions to cell theory from different parts of the world were studied in Science, and students calculated the cost of a typical American picnic in Math.

All participating students enjoyed tying all their cross-cultural studies together with the annual 6th Grade Culture Day. It's what being a Global Citizen is all about.
