ACS New York Lunch 15th April 2000

What began as an opportune idea turned into a thoroughly enjoyable event in New York City.

We were due to head out to New York for a British American Chamber of Commerce event and we thought it would be a great opportunity to try and meet with some of our alumni while we were there.

So, we sent emails to our registered alumni in the New York area and put up a notice on our Web site to see if they felt the same way. Immediately we got a very positive response - the idea of our arranging an informal lunch obviously appealed.

Saturday the 15th of April 2000 soon came around and Judson Scruton (Director of Development), Andrew Kittell (U.S.Dean of Enrollment Management) and I waited at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan for our first alum to turn up. We chose the Hyatt mainly for its location, right next door to Grand Central station and with the ease of finding us, ACS alumni soon started to appear.

Twenty four alumni, two partners, one baby and a drink or two later, we sat down to a delicious lunch and had a really lovely time putting faces to names and getting to know our former students a little better.

With alumni from Cobham, Hillingdon and Knightsbridge campuses spanning 25years of ACS attendance, the atmosphere was very relaxed and there was the same common bond that I felt in the California reunion last year where everyone was considered a friend regardless of when or where they had their ACS experience.

All agreed that they'd had a great time and were glad of the opportunity to get together with other ACSers in their area. Old friendships were revived and new ones formed and I feel certain that we will continue to bring together our New Yorkers into the future.
