- At Wimbledon, John Newcombe became men’s champion and Billie Jean King became the women’s champion

- In 1967 Maureen Wilton sets a world record in the women’s marathon with a time of 3:15:22. In 2007 Paula Radcliffe has improved the time by an astonishing 1 hour, holding the current record at 2:15:25
- New Zealander, Denny Hulme, drove his way to the Formula 1 world championship
- The American Basketball Association is formed
- Celtic became the first UK football club to win the European Cup, beating Inter Milan 2-1 in the final in Lisbon. The team also won the Scottish league and Scottish Cup, thus becoming the first team to complete the domestic and European Treble
- St Louis Cardinals beat the Boston Red Sox 4-3 to win baseballs World Series
- Golfer, Gay Brewer, won the 1967 US Masters competition
